On behalf of the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA), REPPP is undertaking a project entitled 'Safe Futures: Promising Approaches, Opportunities and Barriers for Interventions to Prevent Youth Recruitment and Participation in European Drugs Markets'

Safe Futures is bringing together policymakers, researchers, law enforcement agencies, and practitioners from across Europe to collaborate in a new Community of Practice focused on interventions to prevent Youth Recruitment and Participation in European Drug Markets.

Responding to youth recruitment and participation in criminal networks and drug markets is a complex challenge. Scientific evidence in this area is limited. This project will build on existing initiatives to inform and design future responses to the problem of young people’s involvement in drug markets and drug-related criminal activities.

The overall purpose of the project is to establish a multi-disciplinary network (policymakers, academics, practitioners, law enforcement) from 3-5 EU countries to support:

  • A Desk Review of literature on interventions, evaluations etc
  • Identifying and reviewing existing examples of practices and interventions
  • Identifying critical lessons learned, success factors and barriers to the development and implementation of interventions
  • Development of a conceptual framework and model to inform the development and implementation of interventions
  • Establishment of a future European community of practice in this area and identify support needs that could facilitate future networking activities;
  • Communication of the project findings to researchers and practitioners in this area – highlighting the need for future research and possible areas for development.
