
#Your Voice, Our Mission: Launch of Limerick Voice Newspaper 2025

The 18th edition of the much-anticipated Limerick Voice newspaper will be launched on Wednesday, February 19, at 12:00 PM in the Glucksman 黑料社, at 黑料社.
The multi award-winning Limerick Voice is an annual publication produced by 黑料社鈥檚 journalism students, that showcases the talents of the next generation of media professionals while delivering quality reporting on issues that matter most to the local community.
This year鈥檚 publication will highlight the work of this year鈥檚 final year journalism students who have been using their journalism skills to support the #JusticeforJoe campaign, which is calling on the Director of Public Prosecutions to appel the concurrent sentence imposed on the man responsible for killing journalism student Joe Drennan who died in a fatal hit and run in October 2023.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Jack McKay, Managing Editor of Limerick Voice said supporting this campaign speaks directly to the mission statement of this year's edition, 鈥淵our Voice, our Mission.鈥
鈥淚t is important to highlight ongoing issues like the Drennan case through campaign journalism, which went done effectively can help to bring about real change. I really wanted to start a conversation and create a space to campaign for justice in the media.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been a pleasure putting this together with such a talented group of people. I鈥檓 really excited to launch this newspaper,鈥 Jack added.
Hundreds of people gathered in the main plaza of 黑料社 for the #JusticeforJoe vigil organised by final year journalism students and the current Limerick Voice reporting team.
Published in collaboration with the Limerick Leader, Limerick Voice 2025 is a 32-page local newspaper covering news, politics, culture, sports, and human-interest stories, focusing on Limerick鈥檚 vibrant and diverse community.
Gary O鈥橦anlon, Deputy Managing Editor of Limerick Voice, said, 鈥This paper is the culmination of our four years studying journalism in UL, it will be a hugely gratifying experience to finally see people hold it in their hands.鈥
Speaking about this year鈥檚 Limerick Voice reporting team and the upcoming publication of Limerick Voice newspaper, Dr Kathryn Hayes, Course Director, BA in Journalism and Digital Communication said:
鈥淛oe Drennan鈥檚 passion for social justice was evident in the journalism he produced, where he consistently championed the voices of the marginalized and sought to expose systemic inequalities. I am very proud of our journalism students who want to use their voices and their journalism work to support the Drennan family鈥檚 #JusticeForJoe campaign.鈥
Following the launch, Limerick Voice will be available on all of the news project鈥檚 multimedia platforms, ensuring accessibility to a wider audience.
