Clem O鈥橠onnell is currently an Educational Developer in the CTL and Director of the ICT Learning Centre (ICTLC). Clem has a first-class honours MSc in Software Engineering (2014) from UL. He has over 2 decades of IT experience across the manufacturing, financial and retail sectors in software development and project management roles. Since returning to higher education, Clem has managed the ICT Learning Centre with the key aim of providing the best possible learning support to students of ICT modules with a particular focus on early-stage students of computer programming modules. As part of a broader element to help promote the number of second level students that choose an IT programme of study in third level, Clem has developed the successful UL Cybercamps delivered annually, both on-campus and online. Since 2020, Clem co-led the creation and development of the and its framework, a collaborative project between the 5 Learning Centres (LC) in UL deployed on UL鈥檚 Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). DLSH offers 鈥渙ne-stop-shop鈥 access to LC digital supports, at both subject and module specific levels which are supplemented with timely face-to-face support in the LCs during the semester, thereby offering our students flexible and multi-modal support to best suit their learning needs. Clem鈥檚 research interests include ICT Learning support in both post primary and HE, student retention in ICT programmes, the enhancement of digital learning in LCs, Peer learning and the use of pair programming to enhance teaching and learning.
