The Ubuntu Network was featured in this year’s â€˜Future of Education’ report, launched on June 20th in the Irish Independent. The piece was published alongside the editorial content from Minister James Lawless from the Department of Further and Higher Education. The core focus of the article is on the Ubuntu Network's role in embedding Global Citizenship Education (GCE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into post-primary initial teacher education in Ireland. It emphasises the need for future teachers to go beyond subject knowledge and foster social justice, sustainability, and global awareness in their classrooms, ultimately shaping students into responsible, informed citizens. Central to this is the work of the Ubuntu Network, offering curriculum support, professional development, research resources, and outreach to promote GCE and ESD. This approach empowers both educators and student teachers to actively contribute to building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
