This project will replace the current UL Research Information System, ULRIS, to support UL's Academic and Research objectives. The scope of this project covers the Researcher profile module generation with Elsevier Pure being selected as the preferred system.

What does it mean for the UL community?

  • A new integrated system for researchers (academics, researchers, PhD students) to update their profiles and publish these profiles to the web.

  • Improved visibility of UL’s research outputs in the context of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and allow for the outputs to be displayed, filtered and searched.

  • Enhancement to support funding applications as a fully populated research profile on the website is a prerequisite for external funding agencies and internal awards calls.

  • A new system will allow researchers to be filtered by a range of criteria including subject area, SDGs, collaborators.

  • Reduce the amount of time researchers need to spend completing their profiles and reduce the associated overheads involved in ensuring profiles are accurate, updated and published.

  • Improved reporting - lack of reporting for accreditation purposes has been identified as a major gap in the current RIS.

  • Improved reporting and enhanced data capture which supports rankings returns.

  • Harness data from existing systems e.g. Scopus, Core HR to delivery high quality research profiles.

  • Moving to a best practice system with international footprint.

Project update

The project was completed as planned in Q4 ’24. 800+ users have successfully established their research profiles in Pure and are using the system as the Research Information system for UL.

The Research Information System Replacement is part of the Research Enablement programme of work under the UL Enable IT Strategy.
