On July 14th, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless TD celebrated the launch of the Consortium of National and University Libraries (CONUL) Strategy. 

CONUL is the representative body for research libraries in Ireland. The strategy  provides a roadmap for the next chapter in the evolution of Irish research libraries.  At its core, the strategy focuses on three priorities, with clear deliverables and priorities:

  • Connections & Community
  • One Voice
  • Research Collections 

Minister Lawless said: “Ireland’s research libraries are a cornerstone of our higher education and research infrastructure. I congratulate CONUL on the launch of their strategy, Shaping Tomorrow 2025-2029, which sets out a bold vision for how these libraries will continue to support world-class research, preserve our cultural heritage, and connect Ireland to the global knowledge economy.” 

Ciara McCaffrey, Chair of CONUL and University Librarian at the said “The CONUL Strategic Plan 2025–2029 is a collaborative vision for the future of research libraries across the island of Ireland. It reflects our shared commitment to advancing scholarship, preserving our national memory, and ensuring that knowledge remains open, accessible, and impactful across higher education and society.”
