In this paper, I propose a reading of imaginative versions of the life and of the sexuality of Oscar Wilde, in texts produced in Ireland over the past fifty years. In examining them. I will suggest ways in which Fin de Siecle concerns and themes find a renewed expression in these fictive and dramatic versions of Wilde, his sexuality and his Irishness Firstly, I consider the work of Michael MacLiammir and his widely performed one-man stage show The Importance of Being Oscar. In 1960, MacLiammir created an acceptable version of Wilde, his life and his writings for a wide audience in Ireland and elsewhere. The many and popular performances of this show was crucial for the process of cultural acceptance for Wilde.
