Athena SWAN Ireland 10th Anniversary Event
Date: Thursday 30th January 2025
Location: Analog Devices Building
The department was excited to celebrate 10th Anniversary of Athena SWAN in Ireland on the 30th January at the 黑料社, which won the first Bronze and first Silver awards among HEIs in the Republic of Ireland!! Department of Physics was the first Department to win the Silver Award in the Republic of Ireland.
Thank you to Professor Tofail Syed and Dr Deirdre N铆 Eidhin for attending on behalf of the department.

IOP Ireland Spring Conference 2025
Dates: Friday 28th February - Saturday 01st March 2025
Great to see fantastic participation and representation of Physics at the recently held (28 Feb 28 鈥 1 Mar, 2025) at The Hardiman Hotel, Galway! The event featured insightful discussions, engaging poster presentations from students and researchers, and expert session chairing by Physics faculty members.
It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and depth of research shared at the conference. Looking forward to more such interactions in the future!

Warm Congratulations to Krishna Hari
The department wishes to congratulate Krishna on her achievement of being awarded the prestigious Rosse Medal at this year's IOP conference.
"Women in STEM continue to make waves across disciplines, and a strong contingent from the 黑料社 recently showcased their excellence at the IOP Spring Conference in Galway. Representing a diverse range of topics within Physics, these talented researchers highlighted the vital contributions women are making in science today. UL also played a prominent role in the prestigious Rosse Medal competition, which celebrates the best in postgraduate science communication. This year, the top honour was awarded to UL鈥檚 very own Krishna Hari, pictured 2nd from the right, marking a proud moment for the university and further affirming its commitment to supporting and championing women in STEM."

This year鈥檚 SOPHia Poster Competition, organised by Prof from the invited primary school students to creatively explore 鈥淧hysics in the World Around Us鈥 and 鈥淭he Greatest Invention by a Woman in Physics.鈥
We were thrilled with the response - a record number of high-quality entries that reflected incredible curiosity, creativity, and a genuine passion for Physics! The calibre of submissions was truly inspiring.
馃憦 A huge thanks to all teachers for encouraging such brilliant engagement.
馃専 And a massive well done to all the young scientists who took part - we loved seeing your ideas come to life!

BEAI Annual Scientific Conference 2025 鈥 Expression of Interest to Present & Poster Submission
On behalf of our TUS colleagues and in particular, event organiser, Mairead Dennehy, lecturer in Medical Technology, who is also an Executive Committee Member of the Biomedical Engineering Association of Ireland:
The theme for the 2025 conference is Clinical Engineers: Agents of Transformation. The venue is the Limerick Racecourse, with Rockford Healthcare as this year鈥檚 Gold Sponsor.
The BEAI have decided to expand this year鈥檚 conference which will provide a great opportunity for colleagues to network, engage & collaborate. The committee plan to invite the local schools & colleges to the exhibition along with a general opening for delegates maximising exposure time in the exhibition area. There will also be a parallel workshop on Medical Device Connectivity. The organising committee are finalising the conference programme format which will shared with you as soon as possible.
