The UL alumni community in Brussels gathered this week for a memorable evening of reconnection, discussion and reflection on the shifting European political landscape.

The event featured a compelling address by Professor Brigid Laffan, Chancellor of ºÚÁÏÉç and one of Europe’s most distinguished scholars in the fields of European integration and governance. Professor Laffan, Emeritus Professor at the European University Institute (EUI), shared her expert analysis on the complex challenges facing Europe today, drawing on her extensive academic and leadership experience, including her time as Director of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and as leader of the EUI’s Global Governance and European Governance and Politics Programmes.

Her remarks provided timely insights into transatlantic and European affairs and sparked lively discussion among attendees. A member of the Royal Irish Academy and recipient of multiple prestigious awards, Professor Laffan’s presence added significant depth and perspective to the evening.

Also in attendance were Laura Ryan, Director of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs at UL, and Norita Kelleher, Alumni Services Manager. Both shared updates on recent developments at the University and welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with Brussels-based graduates.

The event saw an excellent turnout and was a powerful reminder of the strength and reach of UL’s global alumni network. The continued connection between graduates and the University was clear throughout the evening, reinforcing the shared pride and sense of community that define the UL alumni experience.
