A welcome message from Dr. Maria Roura, Course Director
Dear Alumni,
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, public health is firmly recognised as a global common good that needs to be promoted across all sectors, including health care, education, environment, water & sanitation, labour markets, legislation, housing infrastructures, urban planning, as well as agro-production, energy and transport systems. The well-established interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health requires a multidisciplinary approach and the involvement of a multiplicity of stakeholders to promote and protect the health and well-being of people across the life course. This entails increasing efforts to strengthen health systems, promote universal health coverage and address the social, political and commercial determinants of health.
In addition to promoting an increasing focus on Planetary Health, we need now to pay greater attention to the public heath dimension of armed conflict and global commercial dynamics.
Amidst this increasingly complex geopolitical context, I am delighted to see qualified public health professionals like you joining efforts across the globe to foster a more strategic, coordinated, accountable, and effective response to prevent and address health threats, including the increasing prevalence of communicable conditions across an ageing world, as well as traditional and emerging infectious diseases.
It is a pleasure to welcome you to this forum, with thanks for your contributions to the Public Heath movement!

This course takes a hands-on approach and promotes learning by doing, which was exactly what I was looking for. A highlight for me was the diversity within our batch of students. Bringing together people from different backgrounds meant that every workshop was a chance to approach public health issues from various angles and expertise.
Additionally, the practicum and the research project were instrumental, offering me a glimpse into the practical challenges and rewards of public health work.
