Brief Description
Health and safety systems are laid out by regulation and are subject to national and international standards. Compliance auditing is standard practice in Ireland and the health and safety system must be integrated into an organisation's management systems to operate effectively.
This module will provide an understanding of the principles of and approaches to integrating a health and safety management system into an organisation's existing suite of management systems.

An overview of the
- principles, approaches, challenges, and opportunities involved in integrating a health and safety management system within the existing suite of cross-functional management systems in an organisation.
- the extent of the synergies that exist among the defined elements of the internationally recognised quality, environmental, and occupational health, and safety management systems: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 respectively.
- relevant case study examples and templates.
- aspects and issues pertaining to management system accreditation.
- ISO 45001 versus the 'safety policy/statement' approach to health and safety management.
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
- describe the underlying principles and key approaches to the effective integration of a health and safety management system within the existing suite of management systems (e.g., quality, and environmental) in an organisation,
- demonstrate an understanding and be able to recognise the challenges, opportunities and benefits associated with health and safety management system integration,
- analyse and evaluate the various elements an organisation's existing suite of management systems for the synergies they offer in terms of health and safety management system integration,
- apply current best practice approaches to oversee the successful integration of a health and safety management system within an organisation's existing suite of management systems.

Applicants are normally expected to hold an NFQ level 8 primary honours degree (minimum H2.2), or equivalent and have at least 3 years of relevant industrial experience.
Entry requirements are established to ensure the learner can engage with the course material and assessments, at a level suitable to their needs, and the academic requirements of the module. By applying to this micro-credential, you are confirming that you have reviewed and understand any such requirements, and that you meet the eligibility criteria for admission.
Successful completion of this module does not automatically qualify you for entry into a further award. All programme applicants must meet the entry requirements listed if applying for a further award.
The fees for this programme are €1,250
